Goals

The goals of the board of the Art Council of SouthWest Florida are both wide-ranging and specific.
The first goal is to publicize, within the council and to the general public, the activities of the organization’s 17 affiliate members that provide educational opportunities in the visual arts (with one of them, the Alliance for the Arts, focused on the performing arts). The council provides various pathways, including this website, emailed newsletter reports and basic print publicity and advertising.
Secondly, the Council seeks to encourage the individual creative skills of those who are members of the 17 affiliate organizations, in a variety of ways:
1)  by publicizing the opportunities available at the affiliate studios:  their exhibits, workshops and related activities;
2)  by each year organizing a major art exhibit (even years, the Spring Art Show, odd years the Winners’ Circle Exhibit),
3)  and by operating the Co-operative Art Gallery of Coconut Point Mall, a wholly volunteer co-operative, providing networking opportunities for the artists and offering real-world practice in the exhibition, curating and sale of art.
In sum, the Council is focused on providing added value to the creative opportunities offered by its affiliate members. It thus enhances the overall appreciation of the arts so important to the Southwest Florida lifestyle — and its economy.
